HIGH SEPARATION ANXIETY

Nikki

Take another little piece of my heart now, baby — The hardest part of being a UCLA Spirit Squad fan is watching your favorites leave the nest

I miss them already.

At least eight members of last year’s UCLA Spirit Squad — including a few of my favorites — will sadly NOT be returning this coming year.  Some have graduated, some need more time for their intense study regimen, and some are going off to study abroad — and all of them will be sorely missed.

Just when I reach a certain comfort level with them, they abandon me!  But that’s life, and I know that they will all still be great ambassadors for UCLA, sharing the Bruin Spirit wherever they are.  But that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t HURT to see them go.  Similar to when players leave the Bruin Football and Basketball teams BEFORE their Senior year, it’s a spectrum of mixed emotions, wishing them well, while selfishly resenting them, for depriving you of their bringing you even more pleasure.

Someone wrote in requesting one last fitting tribute to our departing heroines, including Nikki, Erin, Jenna, Lani, Frankie, Roxanne, Melissa, Chelsea, and Dana, so here is a pictorial featuring all eight of these beauties.  A tearful farewell, with the hope that some of them return for future events like Homecoming.  Also, I hope they know that if they ever want to communicate to their fans here — like Katie Wee does — they are more than welcome to contact me.  I would be honored and proud to promote any endeavor that they undertake, or publish any thoughts (or photos) that they’d like to share, as they proceed in life.

COMING SOON:  A tribute to the girls who ARE returning.
