Not a hard decision — u$c is not excited, as star Receiver Robert Woods chooses to end his trojan career prematurely, while at UCLA star Linebacker Anthony Barr announces that he will come back to Westwood for another session
Fans of u$c are freaking out all over the Internet, as their beloved Football team’s historic and unprecedented collapse is still wreaking collateral damage. Right after the trojans’ humiliating loss to lowly-touted Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl, sc’s JUNIOR All-American-caliber Wide Receiver Robert Woods declared himself headed to the NFL Draft.
Woods added insult to injury by publicly stating that if sc wanted him to return for his Senior season, they would have found a way to get him the ball. Not only was Woods a total non-factor in the Sun Bowl, but all season long he has played second banana to Marquise Lee. The disrespect that Woods felt — being totally taken for granted all year — directly led to him bailing early. Of course, sc’s bleak outlook for next season didn’t help. Neither did QB Max Wittek’s piss-poor performance in the Bowl game. If he is the QB next year, Woods’ stock in the Draft would have fallen dramatically.
Woods’ early departure is going to hurt Lee next year, as Lee will be double-teamed on every passing down, all season long. And Woods’ exit is not the only problem for sc: They are also losing some of their recruits, who are de-committing and taking trips to other schools now. With Head Coach Lane Kiffin being hailed as a horrible Coach, high school phenoms en masse are quickly re-thinking their decision to come to South Central. Losing 5 of the last 6 games is quite a deterrent.
Meanwhile, the situation is reversed at UCLA, where Anthony Barr is blowing off NFL overtures to come back to his Bruin family and lead them to great heights in 2013. The ultra-swift Linebacker led the Country in Sacks, and will continue to terrorize opposing QB’s as a member of the improving UCLA Defense. The Bruins might have lost their last three games, but losing to Rose Bowl Champion Top 5 Stanford and Baylor, who knocked off the #1 team in the Country a few weeks earlier, is not nearly as damaging as what happened to u$c.
Everyone knows that Jim Mora is a stellar Coach, and UCLA is a Program on the rise, while u$c is a program under sanctions, whose fans are riotously demanding the Coach’s head on a stake. Amazing how fast things change. Just a year ago, none of this could even be imagined.
To celebrate this changing of the guard, here are 38 more photos of the UCLA Spirit Squad, which has been superior to sc (and every other school) for years… and THAT is NOT going to change any time soon.
