Another Blue and Gold Champion — American Pharoah becomes the first horse in 37 years to win the Triple Crown, and of course, his jockey was wearing BLUE and GOLD silks!
A “Pharoah” even Woody Allen could like.
Thoroughbred race horse American Pharoah has just become the 12th-ever winner of the prestigious Triple Crown, by going wire-to-wire in the Belmont Stakes. Pharoah (spelled wrong when registered so this is not a typo) made it look easy, justifying his 3-to-5 odds as he pulled away to win easily.
Since Affirmed won the last Triple Crown in 1978, 13 other horses have entered the Belmont having won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, with a chance to wear the Triple Crown, but none of them could complete the brutal task. Jockey Victor Espinosa becomes the first Hispanic jockey to win the Triple Crown. “Victor-y” Espinosa, at 43, is the oldest jockey to ever win the Triple Crown, and Trainer Bob Baffert, at 62, is the second-oldest Trainer to do it. This was Espinosa’s third time with a chance to do it in the third leg of Horse Racing’s biggest challenge, and Baffert’s fourth, so I guess you can chalk some of this up to experience… but I credit Owner Zayat Stable’s Blue & Gold jockey silks for finally breaking the curse.

Secretariat’s Belmont time was almost 3 seconds faster than American Pharoah’s. As a racing aficionado, do you think there is a chance that Secretariat was doping? Did that happen in 1973?
